It looks like there's only one prize left...
A Google Nexus 7 Tablet!!

Wouldn't winning that be a fabulous way to start the school year?!?!??!?
All the prizes have been totally great but this...well this one takes the cake!

I have to admit that I went into Best Buy yesterday just to check one out and see what it was like.
It was super-fantastic!
LOVE the size, the functions, the apps.
Not to mention that the one that we're giving away comes with a case and a darling chevron stylus!

But, before you hop on over there, I thought I'd share with you the organizational tip that I have been working on today.

Room Arranging Without Breaking a Sweat

Years ago when I was a little girl we moved into a large house.  My mom went to the house and measured all the walls, etc.  Then she came home and measured all of our furniture.  Why?  To arrange it on paper before she had the movers came to move everything.  I applied that little tip to my classroom.

On the last day of school I haphazardly recorded the measurements of my classroom.
I'm glad nobody was grading for neatness!

Today I printed out some graph paper and drew the outline of my classroom.  I used 2 squares per foot (6 inches per square).

I added the door and the white board.

Then I drew out the furniture.

I colored it and cut it out.  {By the way, I'm sure there is probably a way to do this on the computer, but for me, I prefer doing it old school.}
I know that Lakeshore Learning also has an app similar to this.

Now to figure out how to fit all of this furniture into the classroom.

I have been debating about getting rid of my desk and think that the room arrangement works so much better without it, so I'm going to give it a go.
After much moving around (without breaking a sweat), I finally came up with this plan.

This gives us plenty of space in the middle to move around; the writing table is in front of the bulletin board so I can add a word wall; and the bookshelves with the books are housed near my reading nook.
(The other 2 shelves are where my math manipulatives are stored.)

As soon as they are done painting the hideously ugly not so pretty salmon colored wall, I can go in and see what this actually looks like in real life.  It may need a little tweaking, but at least the major hard stuff is done!  WHEW!

So I hope that helps you.

Now it's time to hop on over to The Teaching Tribune (The Triple T) to enter to win what?????

I hope the winner is YOU!
Just click on the picture to take you there.

Then, enter below for your chance to win one.
Just in time for back to school!

I know that you have seen this amazing pencil sharpener on various blogs, but I am here to tell you that it is a MUST for your back to school shopping list!

Yep!  This cute little pencil sharpener will make your life a lot easier!

I have been asked to review several products, many of which do not get a "yes" from me.  This one I definitely had to try  because I had heard so many good things about it, and let me tell you it did not disappoint!

You can find out about it and other supplies over here at Classroom Friendly Supplies.

I love their byline:
The Sharpener That All The Teachers Are Talking About
It will change the way you sharpen pencils in your classroom.
It is TRUE!  I have taken this sharpener with me to two different grade level meetings so that my coworkers could see how fabulous it is!
I will admit when I first got the sharpener, I was a little concerned about the durability however, it has sharpened more pencils than I can count.  It has withstood my son (a/k/a Bull in a China Shop) along with a class of first graders and a class of fourth graders.  I ended up sharing it with the teacher next door when his sharpener broke.  I thought my kids were tough on things, they are nothing compared to the fourth graders next door!
Here are some reasons that I think you should consider purchasing it:
  • It is very durable.
  • It is super easy to use.  I love how my first graders were able to use it without help from me.
  • It is super quiet.
  • The tray actually holds all of the shavings inside without any slipping out.
  • It comes in a variety of colors.
Here is a quick little video to show how it is used.  Mind you, we made it before our custodian could secure it in our classroom.

Now I know that you can see shavings on the table.  They had just opened and spilled some out, plus they had sharpened like a million pencils.  I am telling you they love this sharpener.

If you are looking into purchasing one of these, I would suggest teaming up with 2 other teachers, because the sharpener is a great price to start off with, but when you buy three, it becomes a super sweet deal!

You can find all that you need to know right here on the Classroom Friendly Supplies website.

Can you believe it's almost time to go back to school...and that some teachers are already hard at it starting another school year? Wooooo-hooo!  Some of my very favorite bloggers came to MY town!  Yep, Las Vegas, baby!

It was entirely too much fun!

Everyone was in town for the SDE and I Teach K conferences.

I went with my friends Tish (the best U-turn driver in town and also a amazing kindergarten teacher at my school) and her daughter (the brand-spanking new CCSD hire...although she's been doing a fabulous job subbing the past 2 years at our school) Adair.

After we finally found the hotel (yep!  I'm claiming that they moved it since the last time we were there!), it was time for the fun!

We met up with my long-time friend Michelle from Well, Michelle?.  She and I used to work together a few years ago, so we've known each other long before we were bloggers.

I have since decided that I need to overcome my shyness and be bolder!  I missed out on some amazing photo ops!

But, I did chat with the fabulous John and the amazing Amy from TPT!

I told John to be sure to leave his money behind in Vegas (that's why we don't pay state tax) so I had to include the money graphic in his pic!
Thank you TPT for footing the bill for the food and drinks and for the fabulous gift certificates!

I also met Teresa from Confessions of a Teaching Junkie (doesn't she have the most fabulous taste in clothing?) and Callie from Teach a Roo,

Oh, and as long as I've lived in Vegas I've never met Elvis (OK, maybe once or twice!), but the fabulous folks from SDE brought him as a surprise guest!

There were some incredible prizes given out.  I won a very cool puzzle and my friend Adair won a beautiful necklace.  Tish won a $100 gift certificate to MPM School Supplies and they each won gift certificates to Erin Condron.

( I forgot to add this in the first time.)
This is Michelle and Lisa Lilienthal.  Why are they sad and feeling like losers?  Wellllll....they forgot to fill out their raffle tickets!  However, Michelle did win a gift card for Erin Condron, too.  Not Lisa though...poor Lisa.  (Bet they don't forget next year!)
But they're not losers...they were just sooooooooooo excited!!  (Like me!)

It was an absolutely A-MAZING time.  I have a whole year to work on my not-so-shy and not-so-starstruck self so I can walk up and chat it up with some of my fave bloggers and sellers.
I can't wait for next year!

A huge thank you to the amazing organizers of this event!

If you want to read more about the meet-up and see more pics, just hop on over here to
What the Teacher Wants and check it all out!!

For those of you that were there and those of you planning to come, see you next year!

It's time for one of my favorite features...CURRENTLY.
If you enjoy reading these as much as I do, you can check out more over with Farley at Oh, Boy Fourth Grade.  I don't even teach fourth grade, but I love reading her blog, because she is just a hoot!

So, here is my latest installment of Currently

Listening:  I don't know about you, but I still cannot get in the groove of sleeping in.  The advantage of that is the total peace and quiet of the TV blaring, no slamming of the doors, no lawnmower sounds, no police radio like yesterday morning (Yep, not fun to wake up and find 2 police cars parked across your driveway...but that's a long story...let's just say they were looking for someone in our neighborhood and everything turned out well)...but other than that, I just love it!

Loving:  Freedom, for sure!  This is a two-fold thought.  I cannot imagine living in a country where I did not have the freedoms that we have in our country.  We are so lucky to live in America.  Yes, the economy is bad and yes, like with any other country, there are down parts to living in America, but overall, this is an amazing and beautiful place to live.  I am reminded of that every day.
The other part of freedom that I love is the freedom of the summertime.  The freedom to pretty much do what you want, when you want.  You your own boss.  Who doesn't love that!??!?!  Now don't get me wrong, I love my boss...I just love being my own boss, too!

Thinking:  Upstairs in our house, we have a loft and bedroom for my sweet son to sprawl out and enjoy life.  (Must be nice, huh?)  Anyway, we have been working on some ideas for recreating that space.  I'll bet I've looked at over 100 ideas online.  Between that and getting new countertops in our kitchen, we'll be thinking renovation for quite a while this summer.

Here's a pic of on of last year's renovation flooring.  It's really A LOT prettier in person.  (I told you my house was tiny!)
Wanting:  Golly, Ned, it's been H-O-T here!  Yesterday we even made the national news for our high temps here in Vegas.  WHEW!  Not even the cool of the pool seems to be helping.  I can hack it up to about 100 degrees, but after that I am gonners!  In the history of recorded weather in Las Vegas, it has only hit 117 degrees twice, and it's been lingering around there quite a bit lately.  Thank goodness for air conditioning!

Anyone have an extra room in a cooler part of the US?
Needing:  MUST.GET.MOTIVATED!  I seem to be so hit and miss for my eating and exercising lately.  I need to GET IT IN GEAR and KICK IT IN THE BUTT!!!!  (I'm not yelling at you, I'm yelling at me...that's why the all caps.)  I've got goals, ya know!?!?

Tips, tricks or hints:  Here's my tip and I've really been trying to work on it a lot lately.  Be real.  I absolutely LOVE reading about people.  They fascinate me, they really do.  I know when I meet someone new I must sound like I am totally interrogating them.  "Where are you from?  How'd you meet your husband?  What do you do?"  Blah, blah, blah, the barrage of questions must really be annoying, but I really do find people interesting.  So, my tip is to be real...share some parts of your own life.  It really is  interesting, at least to me, to read about others.

Me and my sweet son at Disneyland last year.
Well, that's it.  Another issue of Currently is in the books on the blog.  Remember to check out Farley's blog for more fun reads!
